धृतराष्ट्र ने कहाः हे संजय! कुरुक्षेत्र की पवित्र भूमि पर युद्ध करने की इच्छा से एकत्रित होने के पश्चात, मेरे और पाण्डु पुत्रों ने क्या किया?

King Dhritarashtra was blind from birth and had little spiritual knowledge. He was very much infatuated with his sons and because of this infatuation, his sons, especially his eldest son, Duryodhana was very spoiled and wanted to usurp the rightful kingship of the Pandavas. That is why this war was happening.
When the armies of the Kauravas and the Pandavas pitched their camps on either side of the battlefield, Ved Vyasa came to Hastinapura and saw Dhritarashtra. Dhritarashtra heard about the preparations on both sides for the war. He did not like to go to the battlefield and see the events of the war himself. He said so to Vyasa. Vyasa then called Sanjaya to him and said "Sanjaya will directly see all the events of the war. He will have such divine inner vision." Vyasa continued. "O King! Sanjaya has insight. He will tell you everything about the war. He must be knowing everything. Whenever he thinks about it, he will openly and secretly reveal everything that happens day and night. He will not be cut by any weapon, nor will he feel tired. He is the son of Gavalgana and will return safely from the battle.
That's why Dhritarashtra asked him about what was happening on the battlefield:
What did his sons and the sons of Pandu do after they assembled on the battlefield? Dhritarashtra's use of the word "Dharmakshetre Kurukshetre" shows his apprehension. Because he also knows that Kurukshetra is a holy land. Kurukshetra is mentioned in the Vedas as 'Kurukshetra Deva Yajanam' which means 'Kurukshetra is the place of pilgrimage for the inhabitants of heaven'. Religion flourishes on this land. Don't know if there is a war in such a holy place, what will be the effect on the outcome of the war.
Wanted to be sure about the bright future of his sons. So he asked Sanjay about the activities happening in the battlefield of Kurukshetra. Where the armies of both the sides had gathered.

राजा धृतराष्ट्र जन्म से नेत्रहीन थे और उनका आध्यात्मिक ज्ञान भी कम था। वे अपने पुत्रों से बहुत अधिक मोह करते थे और इसी मोह के कारण उनके पुत्र, विशेष कर उनका सब से बड़ा पुत्र, दुर्योधन बहुत ही ज्यादा बिगड़ा हुआ था और पाण्डवों के न्यायोचित राज्याधिकार को हड़पना चाहता था। इसी कारण यह युद्ध हो रहा था।
जब कौरवों और पांडवों की सेनाओं ने युद्ध के मैदान के दोनों ओर अपने शिविर लगा दिए, तो वेद व्यास हस्तिनापुर आए और उन्होंने धृतराष्ट्र को देखा। धृतराष्ट्र ने युद्ध के लिए दोनों ओर की तैयारियों के बारे में सुना। वह युद्ध के मैदान में जाकर स्वयं युद्ध की घटनाओं को देखना पसन्द नहीं करता था। उसने व्यास से ऐसा कहा। तब व्यास ने संजय को अपने पास बुलाया और कहा "संजय युद्ध की सभी घटनाओं को सीधे देखेगा। उसके पास ऐसी दिव्य आंतरिक दृष्टि होगी।" व्यास ने जारी रखा। "हे राजा! संजय के पास अंतर्दृष्टि है। वह आपको युद्ध के बारे में सब कुछ बताएगा। वह सब कुछ जान रहा होगा। जब भी वह इसके बारे में सोचेगा, वह दिन में और रात में होने वाली हर चीज को खुले और गुप्त रूप से देखेगा। उसे कोई शस्त्र नहीं काटेगा और न ही उसे कोई थकान लगेगी। वह गवलगण का पुत्र है और युद्ध से सकुशल लौट आएगा।
इसी लिए धृतराष्ट्र ने उनसे युद्धस्थल पर क्या हो रहा है उसके बारे में पूछा | उसके और पाण्डु पुत्रों ने युद्धभूमि में एकत्रित होने के पश्चात क्या किया? धृतराष्ट्र के "धर्मक्षेत्रे कुरुक्षेत्रे" शब्द का प्रयोग करने से उसकी आशंका का पता चलता है। क्योंकि वो भी जानता है कि कुरुक्षेत्र पवित्र भूमि है। कुरुक्षेत्र का उल्लेख वेदों में 'कुरुक्षेत्र देव यजनम्' के रूप में किया गया है अर्थात 'कुरुक्षेत्र, स्वर्ग के निवासियों के लिए तीर्थ स्थल है।' इस भूमि पर धर्म फलीभूत होता है। इतने पवित्र स्थान पर युद्ध होने से पता नहीं, युद्ध की परिणाम पर क्या असर पड़ेगा।
अपने पुत्रों के उज्ज्वल भविष्य के प्रति सुनिश्चित होना चाहता था। इसलिए उसने संजय से कुरुक्षेत्र के युद्धस्थल में हो रही गतिविधियों के संबंध में पूछा। जहाँ दोनों पक्षों की सेनाएं एकत्रित हुई थीं।
