Katha:

Once upon a time, King Mahishmat looked after his kingdom very well. The king had four sons. Among them, the elder boy named Lumpak was a big sinner. He was a womanizer, gambler, and prostitute. The king tried hard to reform his son, but could not succeed. So when the king had no solution left, he expelled the son from the kingdom. Then Lumpak started thinking in his mind that his father and brothers had abandoned him, what should he do now?

Worrying like this, he thought that I would go to the forest during the day, then come back from the forest at night and live in the kingdom. Thinking this, he went to the forest. The creature used to commit violence and theft. There was a very ancient Peepal tree. In that forest, that tree was considered as a deity. At the same place that sinner Lumpak lived. Every morning he would go to the forest and at night he would come to the kingdom and sleep.

One day the king came to know that Lumpak sleeps in the kingdom at night. So the king put soldiers on guard outside the kingdom. So when he was going to sleep at night, the soldiers did not let him go, and on asking the king took all his clothes, etc.

While condemning and misbehaving, the day of Pausha Krishna Saphala Ekadashi came. It was the night of Dashami and due to a lack of clothes, he fainted after suffering from a cold. Due to the cold, he was lying like a dead body under the peepal tree. The night passed by chattering teeth.

He did not regain consciousness even after sunrise. On the day of Saphala Ekadashi, Lumpak lay unconscious. He came to his senses when it was noon. After a while, he got up from his seat, and he started walking like a lame, falling at every step. Suffering from hunger and thirst, he went to the forest, and that evil Lumpak, who had no power to kill animals, picked up the fruits that were lying on the ground.

By the time he arrived, the sun had set. Thinking about what will happen now, he started lamenting and put all those fruits under the tree. He could not sleep at night. This awakened him. Lord Madhusudan accepted the worship of those fruits and the fast of Saphala Ekadashi.

God was pleased with the effect of this fast and Lumpak started to understand all his mistakes. He started realizing that he was wrong. By the grace of Ekadashi fast, he got good sense and he went back to his father, the next morning and asked for forgiveness. Then, after doing all kinds of work for a few years with the permission of his father, first he rectified his old mistakes and then learned the work of a king. Finally won the father's heart with his skill.

Seeing him, the father gave him the kingdom. He ruled for many years. On the day of Ekadashi, he started getting engrossed in the devotion to God. Those who observe Saphala Ekadashi fast in this way, they will undoubtedly attain salvation by taking fame in this world.
