In whose houses one lakh ascetics eat food daily, the help they get in sixty thousand years is by fasting on Ekadashi. Giving food to the hungry is ten times more fruitful than that. While living in heaven by donating food, ancestors and deities are satisfied, there is no limit to the virtue of fasting on Ekadashi. Pilgrimage, charity, and rules, roar only until Ekadashi is not achieved, therefore people who are afraid of the world should observe Ekadashi fast. Even after doing a thousand sacrifices, there is no result equal to Ekadashi.

Katha:

Once upon a time, there was a king named Vaikhanas, who used to protect the subjects like a son in the beautiful city named Champak, which was decorated with Vaishnavas. One day the king saw in his dream his father who had attained degradation, he was surprised to see this. He narrated the dream to the Brahmins, “O Brahmins! I have seen my father lying in hell in my dream. Father told me that O son! I am in progress, save me." The king further said, “O Brahmins! Tell me something like charity, fasting, penance, or yoga, through which my ancestors can get salvation. Brahmins said, “O Nrip! Here Parvat Muni's ashram is nearby. He knows everything past, future, and present. You go to him." That king went to Muni's ashram after listening to his words. That hermitage was adorned with Brahmins, subjects, and sages of peaceful nature. The king went there and prostrated on the earth. The sage inquired about the well-being of the seven organs of the kingdom and said, "Is your kingdom flawless?" The king said, "O Vipra! By your grace, even though everything is fine, some obstacles have arisen. Hey Brahman! I have some doubt, you remove it. Hearing these words of Parvat Muni Raja, he closed his eyes and started thinking about the past and future." Then said to the king, “O Rajendra! I have understood your father's sin. Your father had sexual intercourse with other women under the influence of lust and did not give his own wife even when requested. Because of this deed, he is lying in hell." The king said, "O sage! By which fast and donation will my father be saved from that hell, tell me that remedy." Muni said, “There is an Ekadashi named Mokshada in Marshish Shukla Paksha. All of you observe his fast and give his virtue to your father." The king came to his home after listening to this word of the sage. When the Ekadashi of Margashirsha month came, he along with his wife, son and family fasted according to the rituals and gave their merit to the father. With the effect of this fast, his father went to heaven and spoke to the king in clear words from the sky, “O son! May you always be blessed. Saying this he went to heaven. Hey Rajan! In this way the one who fasts on this Mokshada Ekadashi, his sins are removed.
