There was a Brahmin named Sumedha. His wife's name was Pavitra. Due to the misdeeds of the previous birth, that Brahmin became devoid of food and wealth. His wife loved her husband very much. She used to remain hungry after feeding the guest. She never used to tell the problems of the house to her husband.
Because of this his body started drying up. Seeing this, the Brahmin said to his wife, "O Kante! I do not get money, what should I do, where should I go? I think now I will have to go abroad to get money. I will get it if I go there."
Hearing the husband's words, the wife bowed her head with tears in her eyes and said to the husband, "People who want well-being say this even when they object that whatever is found on earth is the result of the previous birth."
Once a sage came to his place. After serving food according to the method, the beautiful woman asked him, "O scholar! My husband wants to leave me and go out. O Munindra! It is my luck that you have come here, surely by your grace my poverty will be destroyed soon. O Kripa Sindho! Say fasting, pilgrimage, penance etc. to get rid of my poverty.
When Munishwar heard the words of that Sushila, he said to him, "In the Krishna Paksha of Adhik month, there is the best Ekadashi named Parma, which gives salvation and virtue. By fasting on it, man is enriched with wealth and grains. There should be more awakening.This beautiful fast was first observed by Kuber.
Then Shivji was pleased and made him the treasurer. King Harishchandra observed this fast, by which he got a woman and a free state.
On being told by the sage in this way, after taking bath with her husband in Adhikamas, performed this fast according to the method told by the sage. By fasting on the Parama Ekadashi of Krishna Paksha of Adhik Maas and fasting for five nights with due respect, after getting rid of all sins and enjoying all the happiness and joy, at last the Brahmin went to Vishnu Lok with his wife.
