Katha:

||Shri Mahaganadhipataye Namah||

Once upon a time, Parvati ji and Ganesh ji were sitting in the forest. Parvati ji asked Ganesha, "Which Ganesha should be worshiped and in what way and what kind of food should be taken on that day which is called Sankata Chaturthi of Krishna Paksha of Vaishakh month?"

Ganapati ji replied, "O Parvati ji! One should fast on the Chaturthi of Krishna Paksha in the month of Vaishakh. On that day, one should worship Ganapatiji named 'Vakratunda' and eat Kamalgatta (sweet kernel inside the lotus seed) halwa." By observing this fast, you will get victory over your enemies, and ashtasiddhiyaan and navanidhiyaan will be at your service. You listen carefully."

Ganesha listens to the story of a Brahmin named Dharmaketu:

In ancient times there was a glorious king named Rantidev. He used to destroy his enemies just as fire consumes bunches of straw. Yama, Kuber, and Indradi were his friends. A great Brahmin named Dharmaketu lived in his kingdom. He had two wives named Sushila and Chanchala.

Sushila always used to do one or the other fast. So his body had become weak. On the contrary, Chanchala never fasted. She always used to eat full stomach. After some time Sushila was blessed with a beautiful girl and Chanchala was blessed with a son.

On this, Chanchala taunted Sushila and said, "Hey Sushila! You made your body weak by fasting so much, yet you gave birth to a weak girl. Look at me, I have never fasted. How strong I am! And just like that, I have given birth to a child.

This sarcasm of Chanchala started hurting Sushila's heart. She duly started worshiping Ganesha.

When Sushila fasted with devotion on the disastrous Ganesh Chaturthi, Varadayak Ganapatiji appeared to her at night and said, “O Sushila! I am very happy with your worship. I give you a boon that pearls and corals will continuously fall from your daughter's mouth. You will always be happy with this. Apart from this, a son who knows one of your scriptures will also be born.”

By saying this, Ganesha became invisible. After a few days, Sushila had a son. After that Dharmaketu passed away, after his death, Chanchala took all the money and started living in another house. Sushila started bringing up her son and daughter while living in her husband's house. Due to pearl and coral falling from his daughter's mouth, Sushila accumulated a lot of money in a short time.

Because of this, Chanchala started getting jealous of her. One day Chanchala threw Sushila's daughter into the well with the intention of killing her. In that well, Ganesha saved her life and the girl happily returned to her mother. Seeing this, Chanchala's mind got angry. She started thinking that no one can kill the one whom God protects.

Sushila was overjoyed to get her daughter back. Hugging her daughter, she started saying, “Lord Ganapati has given you life again. Those who have no one, their protector is Ganesha.”

Chanchala came and bowed her head at his feet. Sushila was very surprised to see Chanchala.

Chanchala folded her hands and said, “Sister Sushila! I am very sinful and mean. You are merciful. You have done good for both families. Please forgive my mistakes. Nothing can harm the one whose God is the protector. Those people who see the faults of saints and good men, they themselves get destroyed by their deeds.

After that, Chanchala also performed the fast of Ganapati ji, the destroyer of troubles and the one who gives virtue. By the grace of Ganpati ji, both of them became friends. The one on whom Ganesha is pleased, even his enemies become friends. As a result of the fasting of Sushila's trouble-killer Ganesh Chaturthi, her step-in-law Chanchala's mind changed.

Shri Ganpati ji says “O Goddess! I have told you everything that happened. There is no other fast in this world that removes beautiful objections from it.”

By doing this fast, you will get victory over your enemies, and ashtasiddhiyaan and navanidhiyaan will be at your service.
